What’s Involved

  • Classes are held weekly on a weekday.
  • The course is designed to develop communication with Deaf people in British Sign Language (BSL) on a range of simple, everyday topics.
  • There are 3 units, which are assessed internally and externally.
    • Access is provided to Deaf Solutions 3 online ‘Student Zone’ for course support material.
    • Deaf Solutions 3 offer ‘Signature’ qualifications: Signature is the leading awarding body for Deaf communication qualifications in the UK.
    • Tutor: Gary L Taylor, with over 20 years teaching experience and twice winner of Signature North West Teacher of the Year Award

    • Course fee £350.00*
    • Exam fee £114.00.
      • £80.00 for under 18s.
      • Taking the exam is optional

    Qualification

    • Signature Level 1 Award in British Sign Language, comprising of the following units:
    • BSL101 Introduction to BSL
      Introductory skills providing a limited range of simple words and sentences.
    • BSL 102 Conversational BSL
      Skills for simple, predictable conversations or instructions in relation to activities at home, e.g., using numbers and describing interests and commenting on the weather.
    • BSL 103 BSL at School, College or Work
      Skills for simple, predictable conversations or instructions in relation to activities e.g., describing the building, activities carried out, transport used, directions.

    Progression from Level 1?
    Progression onto BSL Level 2, BSL Level 3 is possible, depending on the requirements of the student.
